Game 1 • Strategy & Tactics

ISUMANIQ CHESS GAME

For 2 Players • Age 4 to Adult

GAME OBJECTIVE

Capture your opponent's King Polar Bear (Nanuq) while protecting your own. The game is won by placing the opponent's King Polar Bear in checkmate!

BASIC RULES

  • Each player starts with 16 pieces (Arctic White vs Dark Arctic pieces).
  • Pieces move exactly as in traditional chess rules.
  • Take turns moving one piece at a time.
  • Capture opponent's pieces by landing on their square.

Arctic Piece Movements Guide

Click on any piece tab below to view its specific movement capabilities:

King Piece

Polar Bear (Nanuq)

Moves one square in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). The central piece to protect!

👸
Queen Piece

Grizzly Bear (Akhak)

Moves any number of squares in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). Most powerful attacker on the board.

Bishop Piece

Snowy Owl (Okpik)

Moves any number of squares diagonally. Flies across matching color diagonals.

Knight Piece

Rabbit (Okalik)

Moves in an "L" shape: two squares in one direction, then one square perpendicular. Can jump over other pieces!

Rook Piece

Muskox (Umingmak)

Moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically. Powerful rank-and-file defender.

Pawn Piece

Pond Inuksuk

Moves forward one square (or two squares on its first move). Captures one square diagonally forward. Promoted when reaching far side!

Special Chess Rules

Castling

A special move with the King Polar Bear and a Muskox Rook. Neither piece must have moved, and no pieces can be between them.

Promotion

When an Inuksuk reaches the far side of the board, it may become a Queen Grizzly Bear, Rook Muskox, Bishop Snowy Owl, or Knight Rabbit.

Stalemate

If a player has no legal moves but is not in check, the game is a draw.

Check & Checkmate

If the King Polar Bear is under attack and cannot escape, block, or capture the attacker, it is checkmate and game ends.

ARCTIC BITE GAME

For Multiple Players • Age 4 to Adult

The Race to Square 100

Arctic Bite is an exciting Arctic Animals and Ladders game where players roll dice and move across numbers 1 through 100 on the ice board.

Climb The Ladders!

When you land at the bottom of a ladder, it shoots you forward to the top of the ladder!

Watch Out For Animal Bites!

If you land on the mouth of any animal, you are forced to slide backward to the tail of that animal!

Wildlife Featured On The Board: Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears, Canada Geese, Snowy Owls, Arctic Rabbits, Muskoxen, and Beluga Whales!
